1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended) 1 small onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 3/4 cup ketchup 1 tbsp tomato paste 1 tbsp yellow mustard 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp brown sugar 1/4 tsp salt (adjust to taste) 1/4 tsp black pepper 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing) Hamburger buns (for serving) Optional: chopped green bell pepper, hot sauce, or chili powder for extra flavor
Ingredients
01
In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook until soft and fragrant, about 3–4 minutes.
02
Add ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart and cook until no longer pink. Drain excess fat to keep the sauce rich, not greasy.
03
Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, and brown sugar. Mix well to evenly coat the beef with flavor.
04
Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10–15 minutes. Stir occasionally until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
05
Customize your Sloppy Joe! Try bell peppers, chili powder, or hot sauce for a spicier twist. Keep it classic or make it your own.
06
Lightly toast hamburger buns for added texture and flavor. This step elevates the sandwich and prevents sogginess.
07
Spoon the hot mixture onto buns and serve immediately. Pair with coleslaw, chips, or pickles for a complete meal.
