Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 2 to 4 tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk Pinch of salt (optional, to balance sweetness)

Use unsalted, room-temperature butter. It should be soft but not melted, ensuring the frosting whips up light and creamy with no lumps.

Always sift powdered sugar before mixing. This step removes clumps and results in a smoother, more refined buttercream texture.

Pure vanilla extract provides the best flavor. For a richer twist, use vanilla bean paste or real vanilla seeds scraped from a pod.

Add heavy cream or whole milk gradually. Start with one tablespoon at a time until you achieve your desired frosting consistency.
